SCDMV to Move to New Website Address, Email in 2026

November 03, 2025

The South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles will change its website address in 2026, offering additional assurance to customers that they are dealing with the legitimate state website.

On Jan. 5, 2026, the SCDMV will change its website address to dmv.sc.gov, with agency email changing to the same domain, so they will appear with addresses ending in “@dmv.sc.gov.”

For at least the year 2026 the current address, scdmvonline.com, will redirect customers smoothly to the new site, and agency emails sent to former email addresses (@scdmv.net) will be forwarded automatically.

Consumers should continue to be vigilant about what web addresses they use when looking to conduct motor vehicle transactions. Scammers, including those that in 2025 have sent out fake texts purporting to be from the SCDMV, often use addresses that are meant to mimic the official site.

“The new website address will make it clear to South Carolinians that they are dealing directly with us, which will be an added barrier to fraud,” said Kevin Shwedo, executive director of the SCDMV.

The change also will better incorporate the SCDMV website with those of other state agencies, in line with a policy goal of Gov. Henry McMaster’s administration for state websites.

At its new address of dmv.sc.gov, the SCDMV will continue to offer numerous services that do not require a customer trip to a branch office, such as updating an address, turning in a license plate, replacing a lost or stolen decal or renewing a registration.
