SCDMV Express Kiosk Opens in Summerville

December 14, 2023

An SCDMV Express kiosk has opened in Summerville, offering customers the chance to conduct some vehicle transactions in their grocery store instead of a branch office.

The kiosk opened for business this week at the Publix in The Market at Cane Bay, 1724 State Road in Summerville, making it the first Lowcountry kiosk location.

The SCDMV Express kiosks are being deployed in three stores across the state, with more sites coming soon to meet customer demand.

The first kiosk was unveiled Nov. 8 at the Kroger Marketplace at Killian Crossing in Columbia, with the second now available at the Publix at Thornblade Village, 411 The Parkway in Greer.

The goal is to offer more options for the public to complete transactions, in addition to SCDMV’s 66 branch offices and the numerous online services available on the agency’s website at SCDMVonline.com.

Using a new SCDMV Express kiosk, customers can obtain a replacement vehicle registration and their license plate registration decal, assuming they have paid their county personal property taxes on the vehicle. Those customers wishing to renew a vehicle registration can scan a driver’s license, pay the fees with a credit or debit card, and print the registration and decal from the kiosk.

In addition to registrations, other types of DMV transactions are expected to be added to SCDMV Express in the future.

Customers can learn more about the kiosks at SCDMVexpress.com.

The SCDMV is working with Intellectual Technology, Inc., a private vendor that provides similar services in more than a dozen states. ITI is the owner and operator of the kiosk equipment.

No state tax dollars are being spent to provide this additional service.
