New SCDMV websiteCDL Day at the Port in Charleston

On Thursday, May 25, 2023, the SCDMV will host “CDL Day” at the Hugh Leatherman Port Terminal located at 1500 Port Access Road in North Charleston. The event is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
This is the third time, and second this year, the agency has hosted a day dedicated to commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs), to include walk-in testing services. The event was planned with the support of the South Carolina Trucking Association.
Customers looking to obtain a CDL will be able to apply for and take the skills test for a CDL if the applicant completes the pre-trip inspection and meets all other CDL requirements, to include Entry Level Driver Training, if applicable.
The cut-off time for the pre-trip and knowledge test is 3:00 p.m.
”We are excited to host this event in Charleston,” said Kevin Shwedo, Executive Director of the SCDMV. “Our original goal was to create an opportunity to support the needs of the trucking industry in South Carolina. Expanding the event’s footprint to the Lowcountry increases the impact the agency can make in providing greater customer efficiencies and helping to support the state’s economy.”

The entrance on Port Access Road will serve as the check-in location. From the check-in, customers applying for a CDL will be directed to the pre-trip inspection area and will receive further directions to the CDL skills test area after the pre-trip has been completed.
