Motorcycle Safety Foundation

The South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) now accepts Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) skills test certificates as proof of an applicant’s ability to operate a motorcycle. The certificate may eliminate the need for a rider to take the skills test at a DMV office. NEW ONLINE TITLE TRANSACTION

DMV now has a new online transaction designed for customers applying for a duplicate title certificate. Customers who use the new online service will receive their title by mail at the address on file. The cost for a duplicate title is $15.00. Visit our Public Services page for a list of all our online transactions.

Emergency Contact Online Transaction

WHO ARE YOUR EMERGENCY CONTACTS?

Did you know SCDMV has an online transaction that allows you to enter your emergency contact information? Customers with a driver’s license, beginner’s permit or identification card may enter emergency contact information on their SCDMV record. In the event of a collision or other medical emergency, law enforcement will have access to this information and may provide it to emergency medical personnel. For more information, click here.

New Requirement for Charter Buses

Effective January 1, 2016, Charter Buses that travel across state lines will be required to obtain an apportioned bus plate (BC plate) or obtain trip permits before crossing state lines. Charter buses will also need to obtain the IFTA license and fuel decal or obtain fuel permits before crossing state lines.

Wednesday Morning Training Sessions

All SCDMV offices close on Wednesday mornings from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. for in-house training. All field offices, telephone service centers and headquarters employees participate. These training sessions allow management more time to work with employees to ensure consistent operations throughout the agency.

Use Our Public Services Site

The SCDMV Public Services site lets you complete many transactions online:

  • Address changes
  • Replace a lost or stolen driver's license
  • View your driver license status, and pay reinstatement fees
  • Duplicate registration certificates
  • Complete a pending registration renewal
  • Obtain your driver record
  • Provide Emergency Contact Information

The Public Services site is usually the fastest and most convenient way to do business with SCDMV.

Limited Saturday Services

Six DMV offices generally offer services on two Saturdays of each month. Check our schedule here for exact dates. The offices are open from 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM. Limited services are provided on Saturdays. The services that are not provided on Saturdays are: CDL knowledge tests, CDL skills tests, motorcycle skills tests, issuance of credentials to international customers, and same-day/over-the-counter titles.
