EZ Title and Registration

The EZ Title and Registration online service allows you to begin a South Carolina title and registration transfer for a vehicle you bought from another person or business that is not a dealer. This system is only for people already in the SCDMV system. If you're moving to the state, there are different requirements.

Transfer a Title or Registration
The transaction above is not available at this time. To transfer a title, follow the instructions for by mail or in person below. This system will guide you through the process. Once you complete the process, you will print the Title  Application (SCDMV Form 400). The information sheet you print within the transaction above has the items you must submit to the SCDMV to complete your transaction. Customers must continue to schedule appointments online to maintain social distancing inside branch offices.

You can bring your forms and documents to an SCDMV branch after scheduling an appointment, or you may mail all of the documents, plus the proper payment, made out to the SCDMV, to the address below:

Transfer Title to New Owner

If you hold the title to your vehicle and sell the vehicle to another person, you must sign the title over to the buyer and include all of the following on the back of the title:

  • Odometer reading at the time of sale
  • Purchase date
  • Sale price

If the person who bought the vehicle from you is making payments on it, you, as the seller, must complete Section F of the buyer's Title Application (SCDMV Form 400). You will be considered the lien holder for that vehicle. The title will be mailed to you.

The same information above applies when you're adding or removing the name of an owner.
