  Appropriate Conduct While Visiting DMV Property or Facilities
DMV Standards for Customers Entering onto DMV Property and into DMV Facilities

PROHIBITED ACTIVITY ON DMV PROPERTY:  Except as otherwise noted, customers are prohibited from engaging in the following activities while on DMV property:  

  • Loitering;
  • Leaving children unattended;
  • Harassing other customers or staff. Deliberate repeated behavior that is intimidating, hostile, offensive, or adversely impacts staff performance;
  • Intentionally damaging, destroying, or stealing any property belonging to the DMV;
  • Gambling, panhandling, or solicitation of any kind (NOTE: The State Ethics Act prohibits political campaigning or solicitation in state owned buildings as well as use of state-owned equipment or materials);
  • Possessing weapons with the exception of law enforcement personnel; and
  • Being under the influence, displaying alcohol or drugs, or selling drugs or alcoholic beverages.

PROHIBITED ACTIVITY IN A DMV OFFICE:  Except as otherwise noted, customers are prohibited from engaging in the following activities upon entering a DMV office:

  • Bringing animals, other than certified service animals and/or guide dogs;
  • Leaving children unattended;
  • Profane, obscene, or abusive language;
  • Harassing other customers or staff. Deliberate repeated behavior that is intimidating, hostile, offensive, or adversely impacts staff work performance;
  • Intentionally damaging, destroying, or stealing any property belonging to the DMV;
  • Gambling, panhandling, or solicitation of any kind (NOTE: The State Ethics Act prohibits political campaigning or solicitation in state owned buildings as well as use of state owned equipment or materials);
  • Possessing weapons with the exception of law enforcement personnel;
  • Improper dress (no shirt or shoes);
  • Being under the influence, displaying alcohol or drugs, or selling drugs or alcoholic beverages on DMV property; and
  • Smoking or smokeless tobacco.

IF A CUSTOMER DOES NOT COMPLY WITH THE RULES, SERVICES WILL NOT BE RENDERED AND THE CUSTOMER WILL BE ASKED TO VACATE THE PREMISES.
